Epidural Steroid Injections
An epidural steroid injection (ESI) is a minimally invasive medical procedure that delivers a strong anti-inflammatory corticosteroid (often mixed with a local anesthetic) into the epidural space surrounding the spinal cord and nerve roots. Healthcare providers use ESIs to manage chronic pain caused by inflamed, swollen, or pinched spinal nerves.
It is commonly used to treat conditions such as herniated or slipped discs, spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), sciatica (radiating nerve pain down the arms or legs), and degenerative disc disease.
