Spinal cord & peripheral nerve stimulation — trials and permanents
Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS): A nerve stimulator is a medical device that sends mild electrical impulses to block or alter pain signals before they reach the brain. It is used when standard medications (like gabapentin or pregabalin) do not work or cause too many side effects.
Electrodes are placed directly near damaged peripheral nerves outside the spinal cord to stop local pain signals. Key benefits include pain relief, better sleep, and improved quality of life.
There is a temporary trial phase (usually 7 to 10 days) to test if the device relieves your pain before a permanent unit is placed.
